Niches for Blogging and Web Publishing

Niches are a crucial aspect of blogging and/or creating websites. Do you have a niche? Better yet, do you have a marketable niche? This can be confusing for those just entering the world of blogging and web publishing. Basically your niche is your central topic. So if you're interested in writing about "making money online," then this could be your niche.

Naturally you can tackle more than one niche with blogging and building web pages, however, it's practically imperative to write about topics you have a passion for. In other words, don't merely pick niches at random. If you love cooking, then this would probably be a good niche for you. The more knowledgeable you are, the more it will show in your websites and blogs. The same goes for topics you know nothing about. Readers can spot this a mile away and will likely leave immediately.

If you have a niche in mind and truly want to focus on it, but have little knowledge to offer, then you must learn about it first. Don't simply start building websites and blogs based on little to nothing. Acquire legitimate facts, understand the niche as best you can and go from there. Down the road your blog or site will naturally be more successful because you have something substantial and useful to offer.

On a final note, never be afraid to go for the less sought after niches. While these might not draw as much traffic overall, you could very well end up with a greater following since you chose a less popular topic. You can always tell which niches are huge and which ones are smaller by searching them in Google, Yahoo or MSN. If you search for the topic "weight loss products" and get 44 million results, it's safe to say that the niche is quite popular. On the other hand, if you search for the topic "custom dog collars" and only get 2,400 results, then you know it's a less popular niche amongst web publishers and bloggers. Although many people tend to go for the bigger niches, you should keep in mind that you'll be competing with all those folks as well. This means it will be tougher to get a decent page rank amongst search engines.
